“Mi Quang” – Quang noodles is a popular dish for breakfast in central Vietnam. The dish name originated from the province “Quang Nam”.
Quang noodles are made from rice flour and shaped in wide flat strings in white or yellow color. The primary ingredients of a bowl of Quang noodles are the noodles, broth, meat and herbs.
It can be said that Quang noodles is like everyday food for people living in central Vietnam generally, and Da Nang particularly. The noodles might look simple, but it is the combination of flavors from different ingredients, which brings customers a great aftertaste.
If you travel to Danang, this must be on the top of your must-try.
A variant of “Mi Quang” is the mixed “Quang noodles”, which is usually prepared on special occasions like family parties or festivals. The basic ingredients are the same; however, the seasonings are adjusted for proper flavor, and no broth is added.
- Mi Quang Ba Vi
As a traditional business passed from generation to generation 40 years ago, “Mi Quang Ba Vi” has defined its own position in Da Nang market.

“Banh mi” – Vietnamese bread
Another Da Nang food that is definitely loved by not only the Vietnamese but also foreigners is “Banh mi”, also known as Vietnamese bread or sandwich. “Banh mi” can be eaten at any time of the day, but mostly for breakfast when you wake up late and are in a hurry.

“Banh mi” is loved because of its crisp crust and soft texture inside. Then, sellers are gonna cut and add some stuffing in the middle, typically vegetables and meat.
You might get a little hungry or tired during your travel, so grab a loaf of Vietnamese bread as a snack.
Fun fact: The bread can also be used as an alternative to crackers or crullers to combine with some types of noodle soup.
In Da Nang, you can find Vietnamese bread easily as it is cheap and sold at every corner of the city. The three shops below are recommended thanks to their reputation and people’s preference for them.
- Banh mi Ba Lan
Photo: Phụ Nữ Ngày Nay
Embracing the secret recipe for more than 30 years, “Ba Lan (Ms.Lan) is always passionate about her signature bread. Although the shop is full of customers, she decides to do the selling only in the afternoon to spare the morning for strict and careful preparation of fresh bread and ingredients.
The number of loaves is limited to ensure the bread quality. The trademark “Ba Lan”, I have to say, is the best of the best in the city.

Branch 2: 64 Trieu Nu Vuong Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang, Vietnam.

Besides, you can choose the sweet and sour fish sauce or fermented fish sauce as a dip.

Passing buildings in Da Nang, you might find those restaurants in a noticeable color – lime. “Tran” is famous for its signature pork slices that still keep skins on both ends, which requires the chef to be extremely careful and meticulous.

Besides Tran, Hoang Tin Specialties is one of my favorites. The first impression that I have to mention is the plate of carefully-picked vegetables and herbs arranged beautifully. The noodle soup comprises the aromatic broth traditionally made from bones combined with five special spices, rice noodles, and meat, which can be beef cuts, chicken or pork paste.
“Pho” is typically served with basil, sawtooth coriander (also called “culantro”), sprouts along with picked garlic. Although the origin of this dish is from Ha Noi, there are two famous “pho” restaurants in Da Nang that you can enjoy this yummy Vietnamese specialty.

A standard bowl of “bun cha ca” comprises steamed or fried fish ball made from mackerel, bronze featherback or barracuda, noodles, as well as the sweet and sour broth cooked from tomatoes, pineapple, and other types of vegetables.
Fermented shrimp paste and vegetables can be added if you would like to. Also, some restaurants serve crab balls for customers’ preferences.

Together with “Pho”, “Banh xeo” is an iconic Vietnamese food. Visiting Da Nang, you can find some quality restaurants that serve those crispy Vietnamese pancakes. The dish name comes from the sound made by the batter’s reaction when poured into the hot oil.

Considered street food, sold at a low price, and savored by every Vietnamese in the morning before their work or school, the combo of those three cakes must be on your list.
First of all, “banh beo” – water fern cake, made from rice and tapioca flour, is topped with choice 1: dried shrimp, or choice 2: an orange-colored sauce from shrimp, pork, and wood-ear mushroom finely chopped.

The next one is “banh nam” – flat rice dumpling in banana or phrynium leaves is the best when served hot. Upon your first bite, you might find it soft and a bit chewy, combined with the well-seasoned stuffing and the remaining of the leaf’s aroma.

The last one of the combo is chewy “banh bot loc” – Vietnamese tapioca dumpling. The dumpling is filled with simmered shrimp and pork belly slice at both ends, so you can find the balance thanks to the combination of the plain elastic dough layer and the seasoned stuffing. The dumpling can be boiled directly or wrapped in banana leaves for steaming.

During the rainy or stormy season, the night market might be cancelled, so check the weather before going there.

Le Comptoir is undoubtedly for lovers of particularly authentic French cuisine and European food. I am pretty sure that you will love Le Comptoir, currently under the control of Olivier Corti, the chef and at the same time the manager of the restaurant.
